Many
buildings in fire prone areas use fire resistant materials on the
roof and walls, but overlook the most important danger - radiant heat.
Heat radiating from the fire through conventional windows will set
curtains and other flammable objects on fire inside the building or
home within minutes. SuperLite I-XL reflects the heat back to the
source to protect valuable property.
This chart illustrates the amount of radiant heat energy that different types of glazing allow to pass through. At only 5 Kilowatts per square meter, radiant heat inflicts unbearable pain and can seriously limit egress through an exit corridor. Heat radiating from a fire through traditional wire glass or ceramic glass will ignite curtains and other combustible materials inside a building or home within minutes.

SuperLite I-XL is a patented breakthrough, monolithic technology that reduces the transfer of radiant heat by reflecting heat back towards the fire source. It minimizes the threat of scorching heat which can limit safe egress of occupants and can cause the fire to spread to adjacent areas.
In this fire test, both mannequins were positioned 2 feet in front of the glass samples with fire temperatures over 1200°F on the opposite side. After 11 minutes, the mannequin on the left in front of the ceramic glass ignited, while the mannequin protected by SuperLite I-XL on the right remained unaffected by radiant heat. Independent fire test conducted by Intertek/Warnock Hersey.
For over 20 years, Europe, Japan and other countries have taken advantage of the enhanced safety performance of products like SuperLite I-XL. This radiant heat reducing fire glazing is an excellent choice for schools, hospitals, historical renovations, wilderness/urban interface areas, property line applications, or any areas where safe egress, impact safety and protection from the dangers of radiant heat are a concern. SuperLite I-XL provides greater radiant heat and impact protection than any other monolithic glazing, including ceramics, and is a low cost replacement for unsafe traditional wired glass. It is available in non-directional insulated or directional monolithic makeups. Fire fighters along with code officials have stated their preference for a product like SuperLite I-XL because it is quick and safe to remove in the event of a fire, allowing for access, smoke release and safe egress of occupants.
This product has been fire tested without hose stream and therefore requires AHJ approval. Click here to learn more about the hose stream test and if it's valid for your application.

SuperLite
II-XL uses a special gel to achieve its extraordinary fire resistance.
This fire retardant-filled construction allows for limitless customization
as well. Custom art glass, bullet hurricane and blast protection,
even specialty environmental glazings can be incorporated into
the make-up to increase energy performance. SuperLite II-XL is
also an excellent acoustic insulator, and can create a fire-rated
solution for any design.
SuperLite II-XL blocks radiant heat so effectively, the surface opposite the fire in a test remains cool enough to touch even when temperatures reach 1200 degrees F.
