Hollow Metal Doors and Framing Product Alert

New code requirements for hollow metal doors and framing

Hollow metal is probably the most known and widely used fire rated framing around. It is tested to NFPA 80/252/257 up to 90 minutes and used in fire rated doors, sidelites, transoms and windows/openings.

However, just because it is fire rated from 20-90 minutes does not mean that it is code-approved for all 20-90 minute applications.  The IBC is very specific about certain door and wall applications that need to meet additional temperature rise requirements – something that standard hollow metal cannot do.

The bulletin below explains the specific fire rated framing requirements contained in the IBC for doors, sidelites, transoms, windows/openings and walls used in 1 and 2 hour wall assemblies.  This comprehensive guide is applicable to jurisdictions following the 2006, 2009, 2012 and 2015 IBC.

Having non-compliant products installed in these fire rated applications puts the project and the safety of building occupants at risk, as well as exposes the architect, owner and installer to liabilities.  Download the bulletin today!
