fire rated doors

Non-temperature rise and temperature rise fire rated glass doors and door assemblies tested to NFPA 252 / UL 10B / UL 10C / CAN/ULC S104.

What are Fire rated doors?

Fire rated door assemblies (includes the door panel, sidelite and transoms) are tested to NFPA 252 / UL 10B / UL 10C / CAN/ULC S104.  Like fire rated openings, fire rated door testing includes a fire endurance test and a hose stream test, with a caveat that building codes in the US exempt 20 minute doors from the hose stream test.  For door applications over 45 minutes, fire rated doors may also be required to limit the transmission known as temperature rise doors.  These doors carry a temperature rise rating in addition to the hourly rating.  Temperature rise ratings are either 250° F, 450° F or 650° F, indicating the maximum rise above ambient temperature on the non-fire side measured during the first 30 minutes of a standard fire endurance test.

Glazing used in these doors are marked with a D (door) and H (hose stream) for applications over 20 minutes.  For applications 60 minutes and over, it is marked with a T (temperature rise).  To exceed the 100 sq. in. door vision area in 60-90 minute temperature rise doors, fire resistive glazing marked with a W must be used.  Lastly, a fire endurance rating in minutes is also included (ex. D-20;  D-H-45;  D-H-T-W-60;  D-H-T-W-90).
