Fire Rated openings

Fire rated windows or openings, sidelites and transoms tested to NFPA 257 / UL 9 / CAN/ULC S106.

What are Fire rated OPENINGS?

Fire rated openings (sometimes referred to as fire rated windows) are tested to NFPA 257 / UL 9 / CAN/ULC S106.  This includes a fire endurance test and hose stream test.  These fire rated openings contain flames and smoke only, not radiant heat.  Because of this, they are typically rated up to 45 minutes only (with the exception of some exterior 90 minute openings, depending on fire separation distance).  For interior applications, they are further limited to 25% of the wall area.  Glazing used in fire rated openings are considered fire protective, and are marked with OH (opening, hose stream) and the corresponding minute rating (ex. OH-45).

Our fire protective openings use clear fire protective glazing without wires or tints.  They can be used in 45 minute fire protective windows, openings or borrowed lites.
